R&M provided planning, surveying, civil engineering design and construction permitting services for the 25,000 SF expansion of the Anchorage Museum. The expansion added significant exhibition space, allowing the museum to put more of its collection on view and created gallery space to accommodate its Art of the North collection. Civil design included modifications of the adjacent sidewalk and ADA curb ramps at the intersection of 6th Avenue and A Street, a complete remodel of the exterior east courtyard, and the design of a covered pull-in loading dock that can also accommodate dumpster service. R&M’s planning staff worked with Municipality of Anchorage and DOT&PF ROW Departments to resolve right-of-way ownership issues related to the cantilevered gallery space, since each entity had ownership of an adjacent roadway fronting the expanded building.
