R&M was responsible for preliminary engineering, final design and assistance during construction for 1.5 miles of divided four-lane arterial in South Anchorage. The extension converted an at-grade intersection to a grade-separated freeway interchange, featuring a pair of multi-lane roundabouts. These were the first roundabouts in Alaska designed specifically for large trucks such as the “Alaska Legal Combination”. R&M led an extensive public involvement effort (including a truck rodeo) to inform and accommodate the trucking community, especially a material source company located nearby. These roundabouts were the first in the state to employ high speed approach treatments.
