Mike Wariner, PE has joined R&M as Group Manager of Materials Laboratory and Special Inspections.

A former R&M employee from 2011 to 2019, Mike has 27 years of construction experience. He has served as laborer, crew chief, engineering and materials technician, junior inspector, field engineer, project engineer, lead inspector and project manager on numerous infrastructure projects throughout Alaska. Mike has been responsible for soils testing, drilled pier/driven pile observation, concrete testing, structural masonry testing and observation, asphalt testing, post-tension cable placement and elongation observation, fire-proofing observation and testing, chemically stabilized subgrade observation and testing, open hole observation, reinforcing steel observation., project management, and supervision of field technicians performing construction observation, testing and inspections.

“The choice to return was easy once I completed the project I was recruited for outside of R&M. When I felt I had been faithful to the commitment I made, I contacted Paul (R&M’s Vice President of Construction Services] and asked if there was a spot for me back at R&M. Once he and Len [R&M’s CEO] said yes, it was a very simple choice to come back to doing what I love.”

As Group Manager, Mike manages R&M’s materials laboratory and special inspections group. This includes training young teammates to perform materials testing at the highest standards to provide the best data possible for construction projects in Alaska. He also supervises on-site grade and structural special inspectors to ensure projects conform with the contract documents and Chapter 17 of the IBC.

Mike took a five-year break from the engineering and construction industry to develop a successful industrial gas supply business in Alaska built around a first of its kind processing plant for industrial and medical gas production. Since being back at R&M, he has focused on incorporating the lessons learned while building a production and sales team to enable the R&M Construction Services team to elevate their already high level of performance.

“I love building Alaska and R&M provides the widest range of opportunity to do that, from initial exploratory work to final construction turnover. Getting to be part of this team again, my daily goal is to make a contribution to significant projects that move us forward.”
