New Remote Sensing Specialist Expands R&M’s Hydrographic Capabilities

Cody Gibson recently joined R&M as a Remote Sensing Specialist in the firm’s Geomatics Department. In this role, Cody will conduct hydrographic surveys in support of nearshore and freshwater projects. This includes multibeam and single beam bathymetry, backscatter/seafloor imaging, tidal/water level determinations, and coastal/offshore positioning. Cody will also collect and process LiDAR and Photogrammetric data via an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to aid in R&M’s surveying capabilities.

Cody has 11 years of remote sensing, hydrographic and land surveying experience. He has worked in remote Alaska, the West Coast, Australia and various offshore locations across the globe. Cody specializes in field-to-finish efforts for LiDAR, UAS surveys, bathymetric mapping, offshore navigation/positioning, as well as geophysical and geotechnical surveying. He is skilled in project management and logistics for remote land surveys and offshore hydrographic projects. Cody’s work experience includes operating as a Lead/Party Chief on numerous surveys, including on projects for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Hilcorp. 

Since joining R&M, Cody has provided LiDAR and drone data processing for the Port of Alaska Cargo Terminal and Alaska Railroad Tanana River Bridge Rehabilitation projects.

Cody has a B.S. in Geomatics from the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and an M.S. in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart Germany. He is a FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot and OHSA-10, BOSEIT/HUET, Cold Water Survival, Offshore Medical and First Aid/CPR Certified. Cody moved to Alaska to attend UAA and enjoyed the state so much he decided to stay. He enjoys the Alaskan outdoors and goes hiking, biking and fishing every change he gets. Cody also loves traveling and is an amateur photographer.
