R&M successfully led the environmental permitting effort for this large-scale bridge project. Heavy coordination was required with the USCG to secure a Section 9 permit in compliance with the Rivers and Harbors Act. Additional coordination and consultation was required with ADF&G, USACE and ADNR to obtain Title 16 Fish Habitat Permits, a Section 404/10 permit and temporary water use authorizations, respectively. R&M hosted an agency scoping meeting to facilitate the permitting process. Substantial coordination was also required with ADF&G to determine and mitigate impacts to fish habitat identified within the project area (Mission Creek).
The bridge connects the entire community of Aleknagik, previously divided by the Wood River, to the existing roadway system and educational, commercial and travel resources in Dillingham. Prior to its construction, the community relied on boats and snow machines to travel within the area.
