Bethel Airport Main Runway Reconstruction

Client
Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities
Location
Bethel, Alaska
Construction Value
$31 million

This project will rehabilitate the Main Runway 01L/19R and connecting taxiways, replace lighting and signs, adjust NAVAIDs and underground utilities, and enhance drainage. R&M provided survey, geotechnical investigation and recommendations, environmental services and PFAS testing, H&H design, public involvement, design engineering, and assistance during bidding and construction.

R&M performed pavement analysis to design the runway and taxiway pavements to support the fleet mix with the addition of Boeing 737-800 operations. Our geotechnical investigation included Falling Weight Deflectometer testing to assess pavement structure bearing capacity. R&M prepared civil design documents based on geotechnical recommendations and adjusted grades to minimize ground disturbing activities and eliminate impacts to PFAS-contaminated material.

Improvements to the Bethel Airport ensure this regional hub can accommodate growing aviation demand and continue to serve the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta communities that depend on reliable air transportation.
