Kipnuk School Renovation

Client
Lower Kuskokwim School District
Location
Kipnuk, Alaska
Construction Value
$31 million

R&M provided civil, bulk fuel, survey and environmental services. The civil scope included demolition of existing structures, decommissioning of sewage lagoon, placement of soil embankment on the building site, regrading of embankment under the existing building to remain, above ground water and sewer service connections, off-site bulk fuel storage with pipeline connection, and new site boardwalk connections.

R&M obtained ADEC and USACE permits for the sewage lagoon decommissioning and wetlands fill. We coordinated off-site water and sewer force main connections with the Kipnuk Village Washeteria. Boardwalk connections required design coordination with DOT&PF for the boardwalk being constructed around the school during the same construction period.

By clearing the cluttered site, decommissioning a sewage lagoon and remediating fuel-contaminated soil, the project team was able to expand the footprint of the school to meet estimated student population needs.

New on-grade and elevated boardwalks provided connectivity to the utility areas of the school for access to the intermediate fuel supply tank and back-up generator system.
Boardwalks were constructed to provide community connectivity to the front entrance of the school and elevated play deck for pedestrians and ATVs.
