Kivalina Evacuation and School Site Access Road

Client
Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities
Location
Kivalina, Alaska

This project involved ROW mapping for the acquisition of ROW for a new eight-mile road from the coastal village of Kivalina northeasterly to higher ground. The new road will provide Kivalina residents with a reliable evacuation route in the event of a catastrophic storm or ocean surge. R&M prepared draft and final ROW mapping, parcel plats, legal descriptions and a Summary of Boundary Problems Report. Mapping and title issues included mean high-water line and protracted section line computations and a review of the effect, if any, of RS-2477 ROW, ANCSA 17(b) easements, the Maritime National Wildlife Refuge boundaries, DNR-managed navigable waters and platting obligations.

The new road will provide Kivalina residents with a reliable evacuation route in the event of a catastrophic storm or ocean surge.
